3M manufactures and distributes a broad range of products, from building materials and adhesives to medical and home cleaning supplies. Their Irish headquarters is located in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
Storage Systems Limited has completed a large Dexion Pallet Shuttle installation in their Athlone warehouse. This installation comprises of a 3 pallet shuttle system 7.5m high with 27 shuttle lane sections of 4 pallets high with a depth of 10 meters including safety accessories. This has achieved a storage capacity of up to 1,000 pallet locations, depending on pallet size.
The Dexion Pallet Shuttle system stores the pallets consecutively and when they are needed, a shuttle- in the form of a battery-operated pallet truck- brings the correct pallet to the front for picking or removal. The whole operation is carried out by a single warehouse operative and a remote control.
The posts of the Pallet Shuttle system are placed against a wall, which again saves space, and the need for multiple aisles is eliminated, which allows for higher-density storage.
